Hello, hello! I’m Meghan Harris, founder of Virtual Piano Class! I am so excited to bring my love of learning and music into your home. I have been lucky enough to have had the influence of The Arts throughout my life and have seen how beneficial they are in every aspect of life. I grew up in Vancouver, Washington and have been able to enjoy the richness of music the West Coast brings. I completed my Bachelor’s degree at BYU-Idaho where I really discovered who I am and what I wanted to do with music moving forward – which is where you come in!
At this point in my life, I have been teaching music lessons for nearly a decade! However, I have found both studio and in-home lessons have their limitations. In moving piano lessons to a virtual environment, I hope to provide you with the opportunity to learn around your ever-changing schedule without having to sacrifice the personalization given by a studio teacher. Due to the nature of Corporate America, demanding kid schedules, and hopefully, some holiday breaks it can be difficult to find time to develop your piano abilities. Trust me, I get it! This is why flexibility is key. I want to help you find your inner Beethoven, Martha Argerich, or Jon Schmidt.
Now, if you’re like me you probably want to know what kind of teacher I am. Here are just a few things about me to help you get an idea.
1. I love the color pink! While I won’t always be wearing it you can be sure to see my love of pink and other bright colors in my teaching. I’m not a fan of boring lessons and want you to be learning pieces you actually enjoy. Through the exploration of different eras of music – including modern and contemporary pieces – we will decide which music best suites your musical goals as well as musical taste.
2. I am obsessed with books! As in, I have boxes upon boxes of books when we move – thankfully my husband doesn’t mind too much. I have always had a love of learning and believe the best way to really get to know any topic is to learn how to learn. Through each lesson, I teach you different techniques so you can continue learning on your own.
3. I have a sweet tooth that is rarely satisfied. While this can get me into some trouble when it comes to eating healthy, balanced meals I have found this to help motivate me when something gets rough. Not all music concepts or scores will be easy to learn but all have a reward when getting through them! I want you to celebrate when you succeed and work with you to find out what gets you moving when things get tough.
I’m excited to get to know you and start your piano journey together! Be sure to check out the different courses offered to have a better idea of which fits your lifestyle best.
