Virtual Piano Class · virtualpianoclass.com
Who we are
Virtual Piano Class is an online music studio operated by Meghan Labadie. We provide piano instruction to students ages 6–14 through a combination of live online sessions, asynchronous video feedback, and a private online community.
Our commitment to children's privacy
We take the privacy of children seriously. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the rights parents and guardians have over their child's information. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
We do not sell or share children's personal information with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
What information we collect
From parents and guardians at enrollment:
- Parent/guardian name, email address, and phone number
- Student's first name and age
- Billing information (processed securely through Fons)
From students during studio participation:
- Video and audio recordings submitted for feedback (stored in Muzie)
- Participation in live online sessions (video/audio via Muzie)
- Posts and messages in the private studio community (Muzie)
- Scheduling activity (Fons)
Automatically collected:
- Basic website usage data through standard web hosting logs
How we use this information
We do not use student information for advertising or share it with third parties except as described below.
- To deliver piano instruction and feedback
- To communicate with parents about scheduling, progress, and studio updates
- To process billing and manage enrollment
- To maintain a safe, moderated community environment for students
- To assess student progress and improve our teaching approach
Third-party platforms
We use two platforms to deliver studio services:
Fons (billing and scheduling) — fons.com
Collects parent contact and billing information to process payments and manage appointments.
Muzie (live sessions, video feedback, community) — muzie.com
Collects video, audio, and text content submitted by students during studio participation.
We encourage parents to review each platform's privacy policy at fons.com and muzie.com.
Parental rights under COPPA
If your child is under 13, you have the right to:
- Review the personal information we have collected about your child
- Delete your child's personal information
- Refuse to permit further collection or use of your child's information (which would end studio participation)
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at virtualpianoclass@gmail.com. We will respond within 5 business days.
How we protect student information
- Student video submissions and live sessions are private and not publicly accessible
- The student community is closed and moderated — only enrolled students and their families have access
- We do not post photos or videos of students publicly without explicit written parental permission
Data retention
We retain student records for as long as the student is enrolled, plus 12 months after enrollment ends. You may request deletion at any time by emailing virtualpianoclass@gmail.com.
Changes to this policy
We will notify enrolled families by email if we make material changes to this policy.
